AS08-14-2506 presents a striking view of the Moon, captured from the Apollo 8 spacecraft. The photograph showcases a nearly full Moon, with its dark portion positioned on the left side. At an altitude above 70 degrees east longitude, the image offers a glimpse of various lunar features.

Prominently visible in the photograph is Mare Crisium, a circular, dark-colored area located near the center of the Moon when observed from Earth. Adjacent to it is Mare Nectaris, another circular mare seen near the terminator—the line dividing the illuminated and dark parts of the Moon. The large and irregular mares Tranquillitatis and Fecunditatis can also be identified.

The terminator, appearing on the left side of the picture, cuts across Mare Tranquillitatis and the highlands to the south. The right half of the image showcases features on the lunar farside. Notably, the large and dark-colored crater Tsiolkovsky is visible near the lower right limb. Bright rays emanate from two other significant craters—one located north of Tsiolkovsky and the other near the upper half of the picture's limb. These rayed craters were not easily distinguishable in Lunar Orbiter photography due to the low angles of sunlight during those missions. Additionally, the crater Langrenus can be spotted near the center of the image, positioned at the eastern edge of Mare Fecunditatis.
