The photograph captures the Command/Service Module 'America' as seen from the lunar module during the Scientific Instrumentation Module (SIM) Bay Inspection. The lunar module, also known as the LM, served as the vehicle that transported astronauts to and from the lunar surface during the Apollo missions. In the image, the LM provides a unique vantage point to observe the Command/Service Module (CSM) 'America' against the backdrop of the Moon's Sea of Crises.
The Sea of Crises is a prominent lunar feature, characterized by its dark and smooth appearance. It is one of the many maria, or "seas," on the Moon's surface, formed by ancient volcanic activity.
The SIM Bay Inspection was an essential part of the mission, during which the astronauts examined and evaluated the scientific instrumentation housed in the SIM Bay of the CSM. This bay contained various scientific instruments and experiments that were used to gather data and conduct research during the mission.

Why this print is different
From Apollo VII-XVII, the bestselling Apollo photo book reviewed by CNN, TIME, BBC Sky at Night Magazine, The Planetary Society and many more. These are the best Apollo prints you can buy, and here is why. This is not a reproduction of a reproduction. The image was restored by the authors of the book from the archival scan of the original 70 mm film frame, with dust and scratches removed and the color and exposure corrected against the film. Nothing is added or invented. Many Apollo prints sold online are made from small web files; this one comes from the film. It is giclée printed on thick, sustainably sourced fine art paper with water based inks, made to order in our studio, checked by hand, and framed by hand with a conservation grade mount.
